After The Storm, Part 2

Snowy Tree Tops. Photograph by Lisa Kato Fitchett.
We saw the late afternoon sun glinting off of snowy tree tops, and behind it, the cobalt blue sky trying to peek through lavender clouds. Subject: Travel, Photography, Oakhurst, California.

After The Storm

Snow Storm Blankets Oakhurst, CA.  Photograph by Lisa Kato Fitchett.
On the day of a huge snowstorm, we drove in to Oakhurst, California. What you see here is the wintry scene that we witnessed as we hiked around on the following day.

Igloo

Hikers Discover Igloo in Lower Yosemite. The Daily Fitchett.
While hiking in Lower Yosemite, we happened upon this igloo that someone had built.  While we were goofing around in the igloo, another hiker who had witnessed its construction came up and told us a family of three - mom, dad, and son - had built it in less than two hours. This particular igloo was tall enough at the center that a short person like me can fully stand up, and it is relatively warm in there (i.e. 32 degrees Fahrenheit inside as opposed to 12 degrees - and dropping fast - outside).

Mark Fitchett

Guitarist Mark Fitchett
On the way back from the Bahamas, guitarist Mark Fitchett on the starboard side of the 10th deck with his "travel" telecaster. It looks windy, but the warm Caribbean temperature made it feel perfect.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas
This is seriously one of my favorite photographs ever.  Mark is wading out into the Caribbean waters off the beach at Half Moon Cay, a private island in the Bahamas. The waves are literally only inches tall, the white sand is as soft as sifted flour, you can wade out 50 feet and still touch the ground, and there are little silver colored fish darting about two feet from your legs.

St John, US Virgin Islands

View from the grounds near the governor's mansion
Wish we were still there! This photograph was taken while hiking near the governor's mansion on the beach at St. John, US Virgin Islands.

It was weird to see US Coast Guard vessels, Obama bumper stickers, and American flags clearly visible as we sailed about this part of the world which seemed so far from home.

View From The Third Deck

After stopping at the Bahamian capital city of Nassau, we sailed for a full day. The third level of the ms Noordam has an outdoor deck wrapping around the entire ship. This was the view from the starboard deck.

Oakhurst, California

Oakhurst, California, a small town near Yosemite. Travel photo on The Daily Fitchett
The grandeur of Yosemite and surrounding territory is absolutely awe inspiring.  Just look at the scale height of the trees versus the height of Tara and Mark, pictured here. All the trees in Yosemite National Park and nearby areas seem to be as big - or bigger - than the ones here.

Half Dome Roadside Snapshot

Would you believe this photo is just a snapshot taken with our digital camera while stopped on the side of the road? Grateful thanks go to our friends Tara and Mike who invited us to come along with them on this breathtaking trip, and also to Corinne and Michael for letting us stay at their beautiful cabin. --The Daily Fitchett
